Took a really nice this past Sunday down Fort Valley and then along skyline and home. This week it was around 10 degrees warmer that last weekend when I took the same route, in fact the temps were perfect for riding through forests still in the clutches of winter and I encountered no traffic along either route. In other words it was perfect.
Peter Egan had a column in Road & Track not too long ago where his wife remarked that his latest used race car purchase had "excessive patina." Her point was that it wasn't just nicely aged--it was pretty much junk! Well, a lot of the places that I stop to take pictures of also seem to have too much patina.
This morning, I took advantage of the fact that I didn't have to substitute and got on the bike shortly after 9 am to go explore the shores of the Susquehanna North I-81/Harrisburg.
In the discussion of the forthcoming Square Route Rally, a link was posted for several rides starting from Thurmont. This past Saturday, I decided to try the Piedmont Loop--or at least the lower 7/8th's of it.
Yesterday's ride was in pursuit of Battletown, MD--at least, that was the general excuse. I wasn't sure that there was any such place, but I'd found Battletown Road on the map, and it appeared to run right alongside the upper reaches of Antietam Creek, northeast of Hagerstown, so that was good enough for me!
